Norval Pohl Named Chancellor of Pescott Campus

Dr. Norval Pohl has been appointed as the new chancellor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus. He was selected as the new chancellor in May and began working on July 1. He brings six years experience as President of the University of North Texas to the campus.

Over the past school year Dr. Nicholas Devereux has been teaching at the National University of Ireland in Galway, Ireland. He was awarded the Fulbright scholarship that brought him to the west coast of Ireland. Under the scholarship Devereux was able to do research and teach at the university.

The sky is the limit when it comes to opportunities to network with employers at the Embry-Riddle Industry/Career Expo on Oct. 4. From 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Activity Center, students will have a chance to learn about career fields, research companies, make contacts and possibly line up an internship.

Information Technology Update

Numerous changes have taken place over the summer months at Embry-Riddle. We have new software and computers installed all over campus. Many labs have been updated to new Dell Optiplex 745s. Some of the new software titles include MS Flight Simulator X, Ansys 11, and Matlab 2007.

McNair scolars visit national symposium

Five students from our McNair Scholars Program returned Aug. 14, from the program's annual trek to the UC-Berkeley McNair Scholars Symposium. Recently graduated Steven Quinter and students Amy Rose, Melissa Napolitano, Eunice Ramos, and Bo Tan accompanied by Olga Diaz, the programs coordinator, attended the four-day conference where scholars presented the results of their summer research projects.

David Richard Dryden was commissioned personally as a second lieutenant into the United States Army by Defense Secretary Robert Gates on May 17, just two short weeks after his spring graduation from Embry-Riddle. President George W. Bush hosted the commissioning ceremony and witnessed the pledge Dryden and 22 fellow Army ROTC cadets took that day at The White House in Washington D.

Computer Security joins the course catalog

A relatively new admission to the Embry-Riddle catalog of courses, the Computer Security minor is aimed at the entirety of the school hoping for as broad a base of students as possible. The minor got started just last winter and is mainly being taught and managed by Dr.

New planes, new safety problems

Embry-Riddle Prescott is finally going glass and even though most people are excited about the upgrade, there is a host of new safety issues that need to be addressed. These are not necessarily new issues, but simply issues that have come to the fore-front of operations involving Technologically Advanced Aircraft.

Steven L. Gruba is a 42 year veteran of the intriguing theater of glass art. The record of glass art beginning before the time of Christ is chronicled by Robert A. Mickelsen in his fascinating website [http://www.glass.co.nz/lampwork.html]. Mickelsen accounts in great detail the story of glass from ancient times continuing on to the present including the history of Gruba's line of artist expertise that comes in the form of lampworking.
