It's getting toward the end of the year, so Andy and I have been so busy that we scarcely have time for anything outside of school. We seriously thought about researching a place to go for our review, but we never actually did so. As a result, Andy and I jumped at the chance to go to Hugo's Cocina with the Diversions editor, Mike Opitz.
It was the day before Easter, and all through the town, everyone was at the courthouse taking pictures with man in a bunny suit. On Saturday, Apr. 11, Prescott was proud to host the 12th annual Easter egg hunt at the courthouse square despite a persistent drizzle.
The other weekend, while putting off work that didn't need to be done that minute, I decided to head over to Fort Verde to the "History of the Soldier" event. As a member of 501st PIR, a World War Two reenactment group, I was looking forward to seeing some of my friends and educating the public about my hobby.
The fourth annual Etiquette Dinner, held on Apr. 1, 2009 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, gave both students and faculty members the opportunity to dine out on the town without the cost and wait of a five-star restaurant. Put on by the Alumni and Public Relations Committee and hosted by William Thompson, the Etiquette Dinner was also a learning center for the basics of etiquette.
There comes a time in an engineering student's academic life when they ask themselves, "Why am I doing engineering, again?" Most engineering students experience this lack of faith many times during their college experience. Some experience it when they talk to their friends from high school that are enjoying all the free time that a liberal arts major has to party, play video games, and update their Facebook status every ten minutes.
Cars. Fast cars, Italian cars, pointless cars, tiny cars, cars that haul ass, grande cars, tuner cars, American muscle cars. All were there in spades. Where, you ask? At the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University parking lot, just in front of the bookstore and Lower Hangar.
Stormrise, by Sega, is a truly innovative real-time strategy (RTS) game that unfortunately has its possible splendor suffocated by poor gameplay and mechanics. The game starts with a pretty good tutorial, managing to teach the controls without outright insulting the player.
The NASA Dryden Flight Research Center is one of the smallest NASA centers. This feature gives the center a much more amicable quality that allows for a community feel and a lot of fun. I had lunch with the retiring and incoming NASA Dryden Flight Research Center Directors on Thursday, Mar.
Do you need a good reason to call in sick and twisted the next day? How about a really good reason to call in sick and twisted the next day and drink two-fisted for more than a couple hours? On the edge of Prescott, almost outside of Whiskey Row, is a place that will get you to drinking, dancing, playing pool, eating, or whatever you feel like doing in public when potent potables are present.
Not only does Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University lead the world in aviation education, it attracts a diverse student population with a wide range of personal interests. So when Briceton Bolton is not piloting a Cessna or studying for his aeronautical science degree here in Prescott to fulfill his dreams of commercial piloting, he sits at his personal computer composing electronic music.
With finals looming ever closer, we at Horizons wish to provide some study tips to help ease the pain of finals. Finals are often very difficult due to the shear amount of content crammed into just a few pages. The University of North Dakota provides some tips for test taking.
During finals week, college students everywhere pull late-night cram sessions and eat junk food. This behavior deprives them of the sleep and nutrition they need to achieve good test scores. A person requires a balanced diet, a decent amount of exercise, and around 8 hours of constant sleep per night to have high energy levels.
Finals. They are coming up fast. How are you going to survive? You just finished that term-paper for your required communications course, and you are preparing for your checkride. You have been memorizing all the required rules and you've been "chair-flying" for hours on end.
A lot of the college students I know are forced to deal with an unreliable car during their time in (or even after) college. When asked why, they give reasons like: "I can't afford a new car," or "I don't need to get a new car." Usually, these excuses are simply untrue.
Professors at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University are often awarded or lauded for their service inside the academic world or in research done for industry. Frequently, however, their deeds inside the community go overlooked and unrecognized. Several professors at ERAU do not seek out acknowledgment for their actions, but rather give their time, effort, and experience to the community simply because they want to.
