The NSCAA awards, given at the end of the playing season, are very prestigious because they take into account not only the players' academic excellence but also their contributions to their team. Once nominated, the award nominees are then voted on by other coaches across the country.
Players must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, be at junior standing or above, start in over 50 percent of games and have made a significant contribution during those games.
The Eagles were up against other candidates from NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools.
In other ERAU women's soccer academic news, the Lady Eagles completed the fall semester with a cumulative team GPA of 3.60. Of all the student-athletes on the women's team, seven of them, or 50 percent of the team on roster, achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Fall 2008 semester.
The Eagles managed these accomplishments during the longest and best soccer season in Embry-Riddle history. Congratulation to all of the Embry-Riddle soccer players. Keep up the excellent work on the field and in the classroom.
