The third annual Scholarly Speaking event was held Thursday, Apr. 9, on the second floor lobby of the Christine and Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Library and Learning Center.
Joanne Evanoff, electronic services librarian and dedicated member of the Hazy Library staff, originally created this unique academic gathering to recognize the authors and publications of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott campus community.
John Jenkins, associate dean of academic support, launched the occasion with a brief introduction defining the goals of the Scholarly Speaking program. Sarah Thomas, director of library and media relations, directly followed, acknowledging and honoring those who submitted works for this special meeting of academic minds.
"This year's program was very successful," said Evelyn Harris, reference and instructional service manager for the Hazy Library.
The event featured a diverse program of publications and submissions from all members of the ERAU campus community, including works from staff, students, and faculty members from all Colleges.
One particular graduate student, Serena Lackey, was recognized for her collaboration with Dr. Dorothea Ivanova from the College of Aviation. Another graduate student, Peter Grey, was recognized for his partnership with both Dr. Ivanova and Dr. Curtis James, who is also a professor from the COA. Their collective research, "A Review of the Temporal and Spatial Variability of the Monsoonal Boundary," was presented at the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, held in San Francisco, California, in 2008.
Scholarly Speaking also recognized Patricia Watkins, ERAU reference and instruction librarian, for her contribution to the team effort with Dr. Beck and Dr. Theis from the College of Arts and Sciences. Their work, "Pathways to Learning: Orchestrating the Role of Sustainability in Engineering Education," was presented at the national conference of the American Society for Engineering Education held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in June of last year.
