UNITED STATES: Boeing Delays Flagship Aircraft
Issue date: 10/14/09 Section: Eagle Eye
Boeing Corporation announced that the launch of its newest aircraft, the 747-8 Intercontinental, will be delayed by as much as 3 months. The delay is said to have been caused by greater-than-expected production costs and a weakening global economy. Boeing already has 105 orders for the 747-8, and they expect to begin delivery by the fourth quarter of 2010. Boeing has also delayed the delivery of its 787 Dreamliner commercial aircraft for similar reasons. However, despite launch delays of its newest aircraft lines, Boeing has reported an increase in aircraft deliveries over last the year.
