UNITED STATES: Three Chinese Nationals Arrested For Technology Export
Issue date: 10/14/09 Section: Eagle Eye
On Oct. 2, the FBI arrested three Chinese nationals under the allegation of attempting to export military technology to China. The nationals are charged with 38 counts of conspiracy to violate U.S. export laws. Allegedly, the Chinese have attempted to ship electronics components to the Shanghai Academy of Space Flight Technology and have also participated in the illegal development of carrier-based missiles, tactical missile systems, space launch vehicles, and satellites. An American-based company called Chitron-Shenzhen, founded by one of the three nationals that were arrested, received the components and repackaged them for illegal shipment to China. If convicted, the three nationals could receive a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
