Recently, I stumbled upon a hilarious YouTube video by the Washington Post entitled Twits. Twits takes Twitter.com posts by famous celebrities and presents them accompanied by dramatic performers' renditions of their expression.

Twits is by far one of the most hilarious pieces I have ever seen. Celebrities such as P. Diddy, Lindsey Lohan, and Kim Kardashian are quoted in the set of seven videos, but never are the quotes very mature, eloquent, or even very sensible. From P. Diddy's attempts at inspirational pontification to Kardashian's inquiry about whether or not anyone has ever bleached their teeth, the quotes in Twits are utterly ridiculous.

But, like I said, the quotes are accompanied by dramatic performances. These are the bits that make this series of satirical episodes hilarious. Actors take on cocky or petulant airs that fit the quotes incredibly well. It's a funny way to cope with an undeniable, sad truth that we Americans must face: a large part of our population consists of idiots.

It's bad enough I have to listen to conversations about the sour entertainment these celebrities keep producing. It's even worse to know that there are people who are genuinely interested in the daily thoughts and lives of these celebrities. What other reason could there be for celebrities to have Twitter accounts?

Yes, my fellow intellectuals, you must face the facts: there are people -- all around you, perhaps -- that care whether or not Lindsey Lohan was picked up by her friend or not. When people could be expanding their minds in some way, or perhaps working to eliminate the stereotype that Americans are fat, they are instead huddling at the computer, wondering what Tila Tequila wants to do tomorrow with all her ill-gotten fame and riches.

Oh! I've stumbled upon another disturbing fact: Tila Tequila has only ever been attractive to the opposite sex , which somehow she scored a TV show, and now she makes more money in a year than we'll make after working our minds to exhaustion for four years and entering our respective industries.

What is wrong with our nation? How can people let themselves be enthralled by these celebrities that can't even produce a coherent sentence?

I fear for our future. I estimate that more average people on the street could identify Lady Gaga lyrics than could do high school level algebra.

Renee Descartes was a famous French philosopher. His most famous idea was "Cogito ergo sum" or, "I think, therefore, I am." Descartes proved we exist. I'm just encouraging people to think about more important, more meaningful things so that we can thank him for his proof.
