The Prescott Diversity Committee held their annual walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at 1 p.m. on Oct. 22. The walk started outside the Student Union and continued along the outer edge of campus towards the Interfaith Chapel.

Nancy Lawrence led the charge as around 25 people joined in this year's walk. Many of them wore pink, as did plenty of other people around campus, to show their support for the cause. Most of the participants in the walk had loved ones who were affected by breast cancer or they themselves were cancer survivors.

At the end of the walk, Nancy Lawrence and helpers from the Diversity Committee handed out water bottles and pink goody bags to all participants. The bags contained pink ribbon pins, mints, informational fliers on self-exams for breast and testicular cancer, pens, and monthly calendars with wellness tips and inspirational messages.

Approximately one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer according to [http://www.networkofstrength.org/information/bcnews/stats.php]. Breast cancer is also one of the most common cancers for women, second only to skin cancer.
