TURKEY: Al-Qaida Leader Detained

On Jan. 18, Turkish police in Adana arrested Serdar Elba?a, also known as Abu Zer, the leader of al-Qaida's wing in Turkey. Police arrested 30 other suspected al-Qaida operatives as well.



YEMEN: Soudi-Houthi Ceasefire

Fighting has halted on the Yemen-Saudi border following the Saudi acceptance of a ceasefire offered by Houthi rebel leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi. Should the ceasefire be ignored, al-Houthi vows "open war" against Saudi Arabia.



NEPAL: High Security Alert at Airport

Following warnings from India that al-Qaida-linked militants might hijack planes in South Asia, Nepal's Ministry of Home Affairs has heightened security measures at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Police and army personnel are on high alert.
