According to Dr. Ayers, Universal will offer "ERAU students their preferred rate, which you would normally pay a bunch of money to get."

"We expect flight [operations] to begin next week. We will be sponsoring a meeting with all helicopter students (or those interested in becoming one) before the end of the week to inform them on how they can begin flying at Universal," Dr. Ayers said.

Universal will use a combination of the Schweizer 300C, Robinson R22, and Robinson R44 IFR helicopters in the student flight-training program. These helicopters were chosen based on their accepted and proven usage in the general aviation community as well as how they each fulfill the student's specific and individual needs in primary helicopter training.

Several members of ERAU faculty and staff were involved in the three-and-a-half year process of obtaining a helicopter flight specialization. According to Dr. Howell, Dr. James Dirienzo, Professor Jerry Kidrick, Jared Testa, Bryan Cox, David Hall, and Dr. Ayers all played vital roles in the finalization of the contract.

Universal's flight training rates can be found on their website at [http://www.universalheli.com]. For more information on the helicopter specialization, contact Professor Fiegl [fieglr@erau.edu].
