I don't have to tell you the job market is tough out there. Many of you looking for a full time job, co-op, or summer internship know how hard it is to score a job in this economy, let alone one that you like. But it can be done, and I can help.
My name is Mark Lyden. I am an ERAU graduate. Over the past 10 years, I have been the lead college recruiter for the world's leading aviation and aerospace company, and I manage part of their huge co-op and summer intern program. I have helped get thousands of ERAU students get hired; now let me help you.
Over this next semester, I have agreed to team up with The Avion to give you some tips, tricks, techniques and advice to see if we can get you hired.
Many of you are coming back on campus for the spring semester disappointed that you didn't get hired yet. Some of you may be wondering what you can possibly do differently to get companies to consider you for those few positions out there. Others of you might have just given up. I understand how you feel. But there are college students getting hired even in this market. Yes, the market is down. Yes, the numbers of openings are significantly less than normal. But all you need is one, so let's get down to business.
Those getting hired in today's job market have one thing in common: they have a complete and balanced approach to getting hired. What I mean by that is they are not just good at one or even a few areas in their job search, they are great at them all. You have to take the time to develop this approach. It is the only way to stand out in the job market.
For example, having a great resume is important but it doesn't get you the job; your performance in the interview does. However, if you don't have a great resume, you probably won't get an interview.
It is the same for your approach at the Career Expo and how you navigate the online process. An interesting fact: did you know that 95 percent of all college students I have met on college campuses across the nation do not know the most effective way to apply online? Want to know something even more shocking? They think they do!
