It has sparked one of the biggest game crazes since the Halo series. It is also one of the all-time best selling games for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. In fact, since its release in November 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold over 8.2 million copies worldwide. Why is it so popular? With its state-of-the-art graphics and artificial intelligence, it can easily become an addiction. The dynamic AI in the game allows computer players to act in independent, unpredictable ways, which adds to the game's realism. Its massive online community ensures that playing it on the internet will always be a fun challenge.

Just like the game's predecessor, the player controls more than just one character, and plays through the story from multiple viewpoints. Its interactive cutscenes give the game a movie-like experience. The story is set in the near future, as a continuation of Modern Warfare 1, where the Soviet ultranationalist known as Imran Zakhaev takes command of Russia, while one of his former officers, Vladimir Makarov, begins to commit several acts of terrorism against Europe. The player goes through the story from the point of view of the U.S. Army Rangers, an international joint operation known as Task Force 141, and even as an astronaut on the International Space Station. The story takes the player through spectacular adventures which include chasing down arms dealers, going on a high speed snowmobile chase, sneaking into a Russian airbase, and even performing an extra-vehicular activity on the space station. These unusual war-related tasks are one of many things which separate this game from its competitors.

The multiplayer mode is also a whole new experience. Modern Warfare 2 for the 360 has one of the largest online communities of any game. The online matches include the usual game modes such as free-for-all, deathmatch, capture the flag, search and destroy, and many others. Along with new weapons, upgrades, and equipment, Modern Warfare 2 adds several features that Modern Warfare 1 couldn't hold a candle to. Rewards for kill streaks are significantly better than in the previous games, with new rewards such as supply drops, Predator missile strikes, and the ability to call in an AC-130 for air support, all for getting four kills in a row. The local multiplayer is just as eventful as it includes the same experience and rewards.

Overall, I would give this game 4.5 out of 5 stars for its spectacular game play. It loses half a star for two simple reasons: this game is so graphics-intensive, it may require an expensive video card upgrade to run and the many hackers found online can easily ruin the multiplayer experience. But all that aside, this game is definitely one worth buying; its unique gameplay will rarely leave the player bored.
